Running it back, this was the second cocktail competition winner! This time a simple play on a Paper Plane crossed with a New York Sour. The competition theme was a holiday cocktail and I can’t think of anything else I would rather drink cozied up by the fireplace with a marathon of John Hughes’ 80s classics.

¾ oz High West Rendezvous Rye Whiskey

¾ oz Aperol

¾ oz Amaro Nonino

¾ oz fresh lemon juice

Lemon peel for garnish

Float of Harvey & Harriet Red Blend

Ice cubes

1. Combine whiskey, lemon juice, Aperol, and amaro  in a shaker with a few cubes of ice.

2. Shake vigorously.

3. Strain into a coupe glass.

4. Hold the back of a spoon just above the surface of your drink and gently pour a red wine floater atop the drink.

5. Garnish with a lemon peel and enjoy!
